Welcome From the Executive Director

Welcome to the website for The Mental Health Center of Madison County. Located in Huntsville, Alabama in the foothills of the Tennessee Valley, our mission is to provide quality behavioral health services with a caring heart. We strive to be united in service to our community and to be a beacon of hope and recovery for those who trust us with their care. When 1 in every 5 people will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, it is critical that they have someone to turn to for support and guidance.

Mental illness continues to rank second (behind only cardiovascular conditions) in burden of disease rankings and combined with substance abuse disorders is the leading cause of worker disability. In spite of the fact that research continues to demonstrate that the right treatment can be effective in alleviating the symptoms associated with these disorders, nearly two-thirds of all people with diagnosable mental conditions do not seek treatment. The cost of care and the fragmentation of the service delivery system are significant barriers to people getting the help they need. Also, stigma still surrounds both mental illness and substance abuse disorders and prompts many people to hide their symptoms and avoid treatment.

We hope that the mental health and substance abuse information available here is useful to you in your recovery journey or in your efforts to provide support to someone you care about. We encourage you to visit www.whatadifference.org and to check out the links to other sites that share a similar mission. Also, please take advantage of the ways to contact us available through this website. Thank you for your interest in our cause and please let us know if we can serve you in anyway.

At The Mental Health Center of Madison County, we work everyday to do our part in helping to fulfill the vision described in the final report of The President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health…a future when everyone with a mental illness will recover, a future when mental illness can be prevented or cured, a future when mental illnesses are detected early, and a future when everyone with a mental illness at any stage of life has access to effective treatment and supports – essentials for living, working, learning, and participating fully in the community.
